E-flite Extra 300 Micro Plane - 3D Flight Out of the Box!

E-flite’s new entry into the ever advancing field of ready to fly indoor aerobatic micro electric RC airplane looks to be a champ that will set the bar even higher on these remarkable aircraft. The E-flite Ultra Micro eXtreme Extra 300 3D Bind-N-Fly ready to fly model airplane permits precision aerobatics right out of the box in a space as restricted as your living room. See the Extra fly during the E-Fest indoor flying event.

Extra 300 ready to fly out of the box

The E-flite Extra 300 micro plane is available from the folks at Horizon Hobby. Like the other foam micro flyers from E-flite, such as the 4-Site micro biplane, the Extra 300 3D micro plane comes ready to fly right out of the box. All you need to do is bind the Extra 300 to a suitable transmitter (such as the Spektrum DX6i), charge the 1S 3.7 volt 150 mAh lipo flight battery, and take to the skies. It just cannot get any easier.

The E-flite Ultra Micro eXtreme Extra 300 micro plane is designed from a clean sheet of paper by noted 3D aerobatic champion Seth Arnold. The Extra 300 model airplane takes the runway with a flight weight of just over an ounce. This remarkable RC model airplane uses lightweight laser cut foam carefully reinforced with small carbon rods to minimize fuselage and wing flexing while in flight. The Extra 300 is covered with a micro-thin plastic film, and sports a wing span of 16.8 inches that matches nicely with a fuselage length of 19.4 inches.

Spektrum control hardware

The E-flite ultra micro Extra 300 is powered by an installed 8.5 mm coreless brushed electric motor that provides ample power for this lightweight flyer. The Extra 300 is controlled by the reliable and proven Spektrum AR6400L combination receiver and electronic speed control, with integrated servos for the rudder and elevator. The Extra 300’s ailerons are controlled by two independent Spektrum AS200L long throw servos. Note that all of these precision components come installed on the E-flite Extra 300 micro aerobatic airplane.

The light weight and large control surfaces of the micro Extra 300 provide positive control for all phases of 3D aerobatic flight. While not a requirement, it is a very wise idea to use a transmitter that employs dual rates and exponential features to properly control this nimble aerobat. Recommended transmitter programming rates for intermediate and advanced pilots are covered in detail by the Extra 300’s owner manual.

Flying the Extra 300

The E-flite ultra micro Extra 300 radio control airplane is an ideal subject for an aerobatic flyer. The Extra 300’s full scale contour is recognized worldwide, and the plane’s generous control surfaces and mid mounted wing provide an ideal arrangement for 3D flying.

These extremely light weight 3D foam radio control models essentially fly where they are pointed. For the novice aerobatic pilot, it is a good idea to spend some practice time on an RC computer simulator prior to a first flight with the ultra micro Extra 300 in a confined indoor flying area.

For example, a bank will not necessarily result in a turn as is the case with a sport indoor RC model airplane. The Extra 300 will certainly go into a bank when aileron is applied, but due to its neutral stability the airplane will proceed straight ahead in the bank, waiting for an elevator input to enter a turn. These nimble flight characteristics, sought by the designers of aerobatic aircraft, must be understood to avoid an inadvertent bump into a nearby wall.

In summary, the E-flite ultra micro eXtreme Extra 300 is a wonderful addition to the rapidly growing list of precision manufactured ready to fly foam indoor RC aircraft. With the inclusion of Bind-N-Fly technology, you save even more money by not having to purchase a new transmitter. It is incredible that you can simply purchase this remarkable model airplane, charge the flight battery, and be immediately airborne flying true 3D aerobatics.
