The ParkZone Cessna 210 model airplane revolutionized indoor ready to fly radio control model airplanes. Introduced from Japan in early 2007, the specifications of the ParkZone Cessna were almost too good to be true. Everything for the ParkZone Cessna 210 is included in the box - nothing extra is needed to build or fly this aircraft. The plane weights an incredible 18 grams. A 2.4 GHz spread spectrum three channel radio is standard, so you can fly anywhere without fear of interference. And to top it all off, the ParkZone Cessna 210 looks just great! Could all this really be true?

Without a doubt, the ParkZone Cessna 210 is all that it claims and is a huge hit with the RC modeling public. As you can see in the photos, the ParkZone Cessna comes ready to fly right out of the box. The tiny radio receiver, electronic speed control and two servos are buried in the foam fuselage, and require no attention from the ParkZone Cessna pilot. The airplane is powered by a tiny 70 mAh Lithium Polymer battery that charges in around 20 minutes with the supplied charger. The ParkZone Cessna even comes in different color schemes.

Supplied Cessna 210 transmitter

The supplied ParkZone Cessna 210 transmitter is lightweight, yet large enough to fit very comfortably in your hands. The two control sticks are like on any other Mode II RC transmitter, with rudder and elevator on the right, and throttle on the left. Both the rudder and the elevator controls have electronic trims, so you can easily adjust the ParkZone Cessna 210 for fully trimmed flight. Note the ParkZone Cessna’s throttle is fully proportional, as are the rudder and elevator controls. The radio has a rock solid link to the model, with a stated range of 50 meters. This is plenty of distance for the small ParkZone Cessna; and just be sure to avoid pointing the antenna directly at the model to ensure optimum performance.

The ParkZone Cessna 210 itself is made from very lightweight foam that is highly resistant to dings and scratches from normal handling. All the control surfaces are attached and hinged, with extremely lightweight control rods already in place. The model even has a lightweight, functional landing gear installed. While the nose gear is not steerable, the ParkZone Cessna can easily take off from the ground or via a hand launch.

All that needs to be done before the first flight is to ensure the battery is fully charged and plugged in, and that the controls move freely with no binding. The instructions cover all these items in great detail. The ParkZone Cessna 210 simply flies perfectly. There is no other way to describe it. I have flown a variety of radio control models over my 37 years in the hobby, and this ready to fly Cessna 210 is just about one of the best. Take offs are smooth and natural, with simply no bad habits. The ParkZone Cessna has a surprisingly large speed range, and seems to be most comfortable cruising around at half throttle. All control inputs are firm and positive. Flights last well over 10 minutes, and any sort of three channel maneuver can be flown. In short, the ParkZone Cessna 210 simply goes and does what you tell it to do. The same holds true for the entire family of ParkZone ready to fly micro RC airplanes. You cannot ask much more of that in any radio control model airplane.

While the ParkZone Cessna 210 flies at a somewhat high speed, this is more a visual illusion from its small size. Due to the model’s light weight, low speed and lack of any sort of inertia, the ParkZone Cessna would make a very suitable trainer for the young RC pilot. About the only item that can be damaged in a crash is the prop. To avoid this, just ensure the motor is turned off (throttle full down) if you think you might hit a wall or land hard. The use of a computer based RC flight simulator would be most helpful in assisting a new pilot with learning how to fly the ParkZone Cessna RC model airplane.

Realistic, light weight micro models like this ParkZone Cessna 210 have long been a challenge to even the most experienced RC airplane designers and builders. The mandate for extreme light weight made everything in constructing these small flying gems a challenge, and one not always met with success. Somehow, the folks at ParkZone have found a way to successfully include all these micro model attributes in a ready to fly format, and at a most attractive price. Do give the ParkZone Cessna 210 a try. You simply cannot go wrong with this winner!
